Today I had the privilege of exercising my right as an American citizen to cast my vote for the candidates I deemed worthy of the leadership roles in our country. This is a wonderful American right that should not be taken lightly. For decades upon decades America’s political scene has been divided into two separate sectors, the Republicans and the Democrats. According to the state of Nebraska, where I reside, I am a registered Republican; however in reality I have a far greater party affiliation. As I entered the voting booth with my ballet in hand I did not enter with the mentality of a Republican or even of a right-wing conservative. I cast my vote today with the mindset that I am a Christian. I did not vote in accordance with the Republican agenda but in accordance with the Word of God which I believe to be the Final Authority on policy.
When I step up and vote, I am voting to represent what I believe. I vote as a Christian which means there a certain things I base my vote upon concerning the candidates. I do not seek to ever hold political office, for I have a higher calling, but I do have five specific things that I think about when I vote…
#1 HOW DOES THE CANDIDATE FEEL ABOUT SODOMY
In my mind this is the main issue. Sodomy is becoming an acceptable practice in our nation. Our God expresses disgust over this practice and has destroyed cities and nations due to the abundance of its practice. I love America and I do not want to see this nation destroyed because of Sodomy. Therefore I will vote for candidates that do not support the sodomite agenda to wreck our homes, our families, and our nations.
#2 HOW DOES THE CANDIDATE FEEL ABOUT ABORTION
I do not feel that a candidate that would support the whole sale murder of the unborn should be elected to leadership. I am an expectant Father, and my wife is carrying the life of our daughter. I have heard the heart-beat of my daughter and I know my daughter is alive. I do not have the right to stop the beat of that heart. My wife does not have the right to stop the beat of that heart. God will not bless a nation who sacrifices its children to the god of SELF. That is a living being and it has as much right as long as God gives it breath.
#3 HOW DOES THE CANDIDATE FEEL ABOUT GOVERNMENT RESTRICTIONS
I want to be sure I am not electing officials that are going to tell me I cannot preach the Word of God. I don’t want to elect candidates that will tell me I cannot go soul winning. I do not need the government to tell me how I must live my life. The government’s main responsibility is to protect us. I will pay taxes for this and I will tolerate inconveniences for this, but do not tell me where I must attend church or whether I can or cannot bear arms. I have the constitutional right to protect my family and I have the constitutional right to serve God as God has instructed. I will vote for a candidate that is more interested in restricting government than in letting government restrict me in my work for the Lord.
#4 HOW DOES THE CANDIDATE FEEL ABOUT SECURITY
I am not in favor of this new “open borders” policy we are being steered into. I want to be assured that my family, my community, my city, state, and country ae being protected from the millions of people around the world that would like to do us harm. I will vote for a candidate that will secure our nation and keep us safe. I enjoy going to bed at night being reasonably sure that I will not face a black-masked lunatic waving a machine gun and shouting for Jihad.
#5 HOW DOES THE CANDIDATE FEEL ABOUT GOVERNMENT SUBSIDIES
It is a Biblical principle that if a man doesn’t work neither should he eat. I am not a fan of increasing “food stamps” or the rising percentage of Americans on “welfare”. I am a young man and I work anywhere between 50 – 70 hours a week doing various jobs to provide for my family. I do not feel that I should have to help support a young man my same age with the same capabilities that just won’t go to work. I will vote for a candidate who is not looking to expand government hand-outs.
This is how I vote. The Republican Party is moving away from these foundational issues; but that doesn’t affect how I vote. As a Preacher and as a Christian I vote for those whom I feel will stand for what I believe.

What is Young Preachers of America? Young Preachers of America is an independent, fundamental, BAPTIST website that is dedicated to encouraging the young preacher of today. There is extreme pressure from this world to compromise that which we hold to as sound doctrine. Our goal is to help encourage young men to withstand the pressure and take a stand with other fine young men of God to fight the world and it's wicked ways. We are Baptist. We are King James Only. We are Old Fashioned. We are a ministry of Lincoln Baptist Church. We are YOUNG PREACHERS OF AMERICA!
“I don't like to hear cut and dried sermons. No - when I hear a man preach, I like to see him act as if he were fighting bees.” - Abraham Lincoln
"We are too busy to pray, and so we are too busy to have power. We have a great deal of activity, but we accomplish little; many services but few conversions; much machinery but few results." ~R.A. Torrey
