EDITORS FORWARD - We are living in a day and an age in our nation where our young men need to take a spiritual interest in the secular matters of our nation. As young preachers of America, it is our obligation to pray for as well as preach to our great nation. Sadly, I fear we often fall short in the area of prayer in regards to our nation. It is time for our young men to pay attention to the matters facing our nation so they know what they are needing to pray for at this present time. The article below was written by Pastor Painter who gave the permission for us to use it on this site. Please take the time, not only to read this article, but also to pray for the people, for the future of this great country. MAY WE STRIVE TO BE IN EVERY ASPECT, YOUNG PREACHERS OF AMERICA!
Pastor Todd Painter
The first reason why many people, who are dedicated to religious freedom and Christian values, voted for President Trump is coming this Tuesday evening. The President is going to publicly announce his Supreme Court Justice nominee and Christians are waiting with much anticipation.
Since the death of Justice Scalia, a strict Constitutionalist, the Supreme Court has been operating without a ninth justice. During the presidential campaign, Mr. Trump released a list of people he would consider nominating for that seat. Today, President Trump said that he would announce his pick this coming Tuesday night.
Given the hostility of Trump's opponents in the Senate, pundits assume the President will pick a justice already sitting on a federal court of appeals. (Therefore, someone who has already passed one confirmation hearing.) At the moment, the Washington Post is reporting that the list has been narrowed down to William Pryor of the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals, Neil Gorusch of the 10th Circuit Court, Thomas Hardiman of the 3rd Circuit Court, and Raymond Kethledge of the 6th Circuit Court.
All of the judges mentioned are considered conservatives. All are respected jurists. A few have vocally discussed their issues with Roe v. Wade. Others are known for their defense of religious liberty. Sadly, whoever gets the nomination is likely to be put through the wringer by the confirmation process.
Senator Chuck Schumer has said that he will oppose any judge who is "outside the mainstream." So get ready to see the President's political opponents push an extreme interpretation of those words. They will try to redefine "mainstream" to include everything from pro-abortion positions to special rights for LGBT persons.
We must be ready to defend the nominee and prevent this liberal effort to marginalize Christian belief and traditional values. It won't be long before the Supreme Court hears and rules on Obama administration's effort to create transgender bathrooms in schools. We must ensure that there is a conservative justice on the court before this ruling.
For many of us, this was one of the most important issues of the election. When the President makes his nomination, we will need to be prepared to expect the inevitable smear campaign and so we should be prepared to ask our Senators to confirm the appointment.
Another important reason we voted for Mr. Trump was to see our immigration policy change. As a pastor of a church in the number one refugee relocation center per capita of the United States, I have seen the destruction that our immigration policies can bring. Sections of our city are being taken over by Muslim refugees that do not share our same values. It was evident last night as large groups marched at our State Capitol Building flying Iraqi flags.
These folks were marching in response to our Presidents executive orders over the weekend stopping travel from seven countries that are proven terrorist havens. This has been interpreted as a Muslim ban, which I would not be opposed to personally. However, it isn’t a Muslim ban, if it were then there would be a ban on the bigger countries that have higher Muslim populations. It is a temporary ban in the interest of the safety of our American citizens.
Today some of our Nebraska State Legislators are trying to submit a bill in order to counter our Presidents executive order. This is absolute foolishness since many Americans voted for Mr. Trump with the idea that he would perform some of these very actions.
As an American I am in favor of keeping our country as safe as possible, which this action is a step in that direction. As a Christian I am concerned about the influx of so many people with beliefs so contrary to our faith. This is to be a Christian nation, but if we aren’t careful that will be gone in just a few more short years.
We as Christians must pray for our nation and our President. These are two very important issues and we must keep them on our prayer list every day. May God be able to bless America once again!
